Nov. 5, 2019 (Santa Rosa, Calif.) – On October 30, 2019, Folio: magazine announced winners of its annual Eddie & Ozzie Awards, which provide media executives the opportunity to showcase their best editorial content, designs, marketing initiatives, digital products, and people. This year’s list of winning creators and designers was narrowed down from more than 2,500 entries.
Spirited magazine, a national trade publication for the alcohol beverage industry, won three of the four categories in which it was nominated. Spirited took awards for Best Full Issue, B2B Food Service/Hotel (January/February 2019); Best Single Article, B2B Food & Beverage (“Get It Right the First Time,” July/August 2018); and Best Overall Art Direction, B2B.
“It’s amazing to be recognized this way,” says Spirited Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Russell. “Spirited was founded in 2017 to spotlight how much alcohol beverage categories—wine, distilled spirits, beer, and hard cider—have in common and to foster collaboration, not competition. These awards show we’re successfully delivering that message.”
Spirited further redefines the notion of trade publication by pairing intelligent features and valuable industry news with bold graphics, high-quality photography, and a welcoming, easy-to-read presentation. “This year’s win in the design category may be the most satisfying,” says Russell. “Our Creative Consultant Ryan Mesheau has been visionary since the beginning, giving our pages vibrancy and wit. I was rooting for him all the way.”
In its first two years of eligibility, Spirited took Folio: awards for Best Full Issue B2B Epicurean (May/June 2017) and Best Single Article B2B Food & Beverage (“Going Green,” July/August 2017).
“We’re honored to be recognized again for our efforts to elevate the trade genre by providing an artistically beautiful magazine with substantive content for the true beverage professional,” says co-founder and Associate Publisher Ethan Simon.
Spirited sister publication, Sonoma magazine, also won several awards this year, including Best Full Issue, City & Regional North West; Best Investigative Journalism (“Telling Lies,” November 2018), City & Regional; Best Single Article, City & Regional (“Broken,” September/October 2018); and Best Photography, City & Regional (“River of Dreams,” July/August 2018).
