Santa Rosa, Calif., (Feb. 22, 2019) – The seventh annual North Coast Wine Challenge has two important entry details to announce.
First, in an effort to streamline the entry and promotional process, the competition has created a new web address at www.pdncwc.com. The now active URL is shorter than the prior address (northcoastaswinechallenge.com) and easier to use online, in print, and for entrants visiting the website.
“Honestly, we don’t know why we didn’t think of this sooner. In keeping with the current trend of shortening names to brief acronyms, it only made sense to go this route,” says competition producer Debra Del Fiorentino.
Second, the event producers want to give entrants more time to adjust to the new web address. Del Fiorentino says they’ve therefore decided to extend early bird pricing through March 8. She adds, “This will give folks a bit more time to prepare, enter and save. Our entries are already topping this time last year, so we’ve very enthusiastic at this early phase.”
Announced earlier, the 2019 PDNCWC will also include the opportunity for wineries to enter barrel samples that will compete for a new “Wine of the Future” award. Chief judge Daryl Groom says, “This will provide consumers and wine buyers an insight for the next up-and-coming great wines and a look into the quality of next to be released vintages. This judging continues to evolve as the ‘must enter’ and most anticipated wine competition in the U.S.”
Only wines produced and bottled by wineries in California’s North Coast AVAs are eligible to compete. The top wines receive prestigious rankings of Gold, Double Gold, Best of Class by Category, Best of County, and ultimately one “Best of the Best” award. The criteria to only announce gold medal winners and above keeps the prestige level high in this wine judging. Only wines rating 90+ points are awarded gold medals and become eligible to move on to the ‘Best Of’ Category.
Produced by Wine Competitions Management & Productions and The Press Democrat, this competition focuses exclusively on wines produced in California’s prestigious North Coast, arguably the finest winegrowing region in the world. Judging will take place in April 9-10, 2019 in Sonoma County, Calif.
